Sleeping City - the Girl
The interior of the building is like that of an old warehouse. Tall ceilings, pipes that line the walls, some with steam puffing out of them, and concrete floors that are spiderwebbed with fine cracks. The air is dingy, and it's a bit dark... anyone who performs any action rolls will have higher difficulties to meet since hitting or meeting your target will be difficult.
In the midst of this large space is a sleeping girl entrapped in an orb of light that's suspended by chains from all the pipes around you. She looks to be teenaged. Above her is a skylight that would have allowed you to have peered in... which Clima did! Unbeknownst to you.
Other than that, there's not much else. No other doors, windows with curtains (oddly detailed curtains, pretty lacy things) and not even a chair.
At least Clima will always be with Dusk.
Dusk forgot Clima was there for a second.
Okay, maybe not that bad, but perhaps it is harder to think about when followers disappeared. But surely, it's not because they abandoned her, right? They probably just had to go to the bathroom . . . so it is more important to look at this shiny orb. "Ah, this must be the one Clima was talking about . . . "
"A new friend." Clima nods.
“She looks cute...Clima is really good at finding new friends too!”
Clima turns a little pink, bashful.
At hearing the voices of strangers, the girl opens her eyes. Her deadfish stare moves over them, examining the pair very slowly. The weak voice you hear does not resound around you, but in your head.
"Ah... visitors. My first visitors... who aren't my followers... will you also become bored of me?"
“WHOA, cool! Who is doing that? Is it you?” Dusk turns to the orb and approaches quickly, EYES WIDE. “My friend found you!”
The girl's glazed eyes don't move between either of you, they seem to be staring past you. She already looked at you guys, no need. This excitement isn't phasing her either. "It is me. I am speaking..." Her eyes close a little, looking tired, like maybe she's heard this before. "Your friend...? You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means."
"What else would it mean?"
"The only people who use that word are those who do not mean it..." She sighs, and continues. "It has no meaning anymore."
"I don't think so." Dusk lets go of the other guards hands and places them on her hips. "I mean, you just SAID that it don't mean what I think it means which means it has to have some sort of means- err, meaning, right?"
"I see. I see. I see. Specifically, it is a shallow term used to refer to people you would use to your advantage in the guise that you care for them. In actuality, these friends are people you would discard for your own selfish needs. Source: me. I had friends, I had family, and they left me..." She closes her eyes. "I once had family photos, and I had memories of spending time with friends, but I don't remember them anymore... I don't... want to..."
"Family is different. You don't have to believe in your family because you're just part of their bloodline. It'd be nice if they could be your friends, but it's not always a guarantee."
Dusk smiles.
"But it seems weird that all of your friends would leave you. Do you know why?"
"My... family..."She's fixated on that, for a moment.
Some things start to surface in Dusk's mind. She remembers the kotatsu room with the series of photos on the wall that you took down—the photos of a family that progressively indicated a family growing smaller and smaller each time, depicting only a single girl in the end.
...that girl looks like this girl, doesn't it?
None of the other rooms bring anything to mind, being as one is a small city and the other was a karaoke room. But that might stick out the most.
It's actually a little surprising that Dusk can even remember that far back or paid that much attention. But in this case, it seems to be important enough that perhaps this was just simple destiny. Or luck. But lets go with destiny.
"Ah! I've seen you before! The girl in the photos . . . "
The girl's closed eyes open wide, shocked. "Photos... you've seen photos? No... no, you have to destroy them..."
"Oh, really? Why?" Dusk tilts her head.
The girl's voices starts soft and desperate, and escalates into a cry. "I don't want to remember... they left me, so I don't want to remember!"
"Well, then don't remember it! Think about something else! Think about um . . . swingsets! Swings are fun, right?"
The girl ponders that, hovering in her orb of light. Dusk is oddly convincing, rather, encouraging. With this, she's willing to consider that maybe there IS something nice about swings... but what? She doesn't sound as though she's trying to put her down. Instead, she sounds curious.
"...are they?"
Dusk tries to come over and see if she can press her face against the light orb, she wants to get closerrrrrr. "Yeah, I was just on them! I guess you haven't tried them before, you should try them though."
Of course, as she speaks, this voice resounds not around you, but in your head.
"I have tried them, but they were always so lonely... Dusk, if you can say so much about friends, then how would you explain loneliness? Not my loneliness... but simply, the reason why family leaves you and why friends leave you. Why?"
"Well loneliness and people leaving you alone are two different things. You can have friends and still feel lonely."
Dusk stares deep into the orb, her eyes seeming focused somewhere else. "But if you're left alone, it is because you are either a miserable person to be around or they are miserable people who can't be happy with anything."
"And I'm not a miserable person!" She seems quite certain of this.
Primrose just sort of scoots over to Dusk, nudging her with her shoulder.
It is at this point she realizes she didn't ask the clerk's name. Man she is a shit friend.
"Uwahhh!!!" Dusk jumps, surprise spooked. But seeing who it is, she seems to snap to and is happy. "Oh! We found you!"
"I had business to do, you know? So I wasn't lost."
"Oh . . . then I guess we just met up again! Did you finish your business?"
Primrose hands over the doll, grinning. "I always finish my business! Here."
"That's pretty impressive-" Dusk grabs the doll and holds it up to look at it, "Oh what's this? It's cute, isn't it?"
"It is! As soon as I saw it I knew I needed to grab it. So I did!"
"What is it for, do you know?" :o
Nods over at the orbgirl. "It's for her."
"Ohhh . . . " Dusk holds up the doll then to the orbgirl. "My friend says she got this for you?"
And now, orbgirl was to examine the doll! But boy, she's having none of that. The girl's body visibly tenses tightly and trembles. Her breathing hastens, and she bears her teeth with a snarl.
"Why... n-no! Why would you bring that?!"
